How We Got Started
It started with a conversation. In the summer of ‘25, a neighborhood get-together sparked a conversation about the lack of sidewalks within our neighborhood. Over the coming months, subsequent conversations inspired us to take greater action to help make our City better. When we reached out to Strong Towns, they rightfully pointed out that we are not alone, that several Clarksvillians had contacted them. We took the opportunity to rise to the occasion and started a Local Conversation. In a few short months, we grew to over 160 members. Citizens, Teachers, Local Officials, Parents, Local Business Owners, Engineers, and everyone in between.
We are grateful for 2025 and excited about what 2026 will bring as our story develops!
What is Strong Towns?
Clarksville Strong Towns is an independent local chapter of Strong Towns, a national organization whose mission is to replace America’s post-war pattern of development, the Suburban Experiment, with a pattern of development that is financially strong and resilient. Strong Towns advocates for cities of all sizes to be safe, livable, and inviting. They work to elevate local government to the highest level of collaboration for people working together in a place, not merely the lowest level in a hierarchy of governments.
Many people have heard of Strong Towns through the massively popular YouTube channel Not Just Bikes.
Strong Towns has over 250 local groups (including Clarksville)! Strong Towns also produces daily articles and podcasts, offers an online academy, curates an online Action Lab with downloadable resources and case studies, and gives presentations to cities all over.
Who is Clarksville Strong Towns?
Clarksville Strong Town is a nonprofit group of Clarksville and Montgomery County residents that began meeting in September 2025. We have members from all over Montgomery County. Our members include youth, parents, retirees, renters, homeowners, architects, nonprofit workers, planners, and more. No matter your age, neighborhood, class, job – if you believe in our mission, we welcome you to join!
We meet on the third Thursday of each month at 1:30pm at the county library main branch. Come meet us for a conversation!
